Most cloud migration projects have detailed plans for the migration itself—workload inventory, lift-and-shift sequencing, re-platform decisions—but weak plans for everything that comes after: application team validation, performance testing in the new environment, security posture verification, DNS cutover coordination, and the rollback plan if anything goes wrong. Projects that don't model these post-migration phases hit their "migration complete" milestone and then spend 6 weeks in a fire-fighting mode they didn't budget for.
Cloud migrations also have hidden dependencies that only become visible on a timeline. Networking and identity infrastructure must be in place before any workload can migrate. Data synchronization must run long enough to verify data integrity before cutover. Applications with external integrations need partner coordination for endpoint changes. Dependency mapping is the most time-consuming and most valuable assessment task. An application that appears simple often has 15 downstream consumers you didn't know about.

No workload should migrate before landing zone validation. Migrating into an unsecured or misconfigured environment creates technical debt that takes months to clean up.
