Common Pitfalls

  • Training designed for the sponsor's problem, not the performer's: Business sponsors often know their business problem but not the actual cause. If the real barrier is a process issue, not a knowledge gap, training won't fix it.
  • No manager involvement: Research consistently shows training transfer is highest when managers are briefed, reinforcing, and holding people accountable. Building a manager track is not optional.
  • Completion measured as success: High completion rates mean the training ran, not that performance changed. Define behavioral and business outcome metrics before launch.
  • No refresh plan: Corporate content goes stale. A training program without a maintenance schedule becomes a liability — inaccurate, outdated, and trusted by no one.
