About this mobile app development plan
Building the app is only part of the schedule. Beta testing, store listing assets and app store review all sit between 'feature complete' and 'available to download'. This plan includes them.
It assumes one team building an iOS and an Android app against a shared backend.
Who it's for: Startup founders, product managers and development agencies.
How to use it
- Open the plan. Click Open in the editor.
- Parallelize the platforms. Unlink the iOS and Android builds so they run side by side once the API contract is set. In the task panel, remove the predecessor, then set the new start date. Then check that the task that came next still lists the earlier work as a predecessor, so delays keep cascading.
- Add your features. Break each build bar into the features you are shipping.
- Share with stakeholders. Share a read-only link with investors or clients.
Planning tips
- Lock the API contract early so mobile builds aren't waiting on backend changes.
- Store review times vary; leave buffer before any announced launch date.
- Prepare store screenshots during beta, not after.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I plan an app development timeline?
- Start with discovery and design, build the backend and clients in parallel, then budget for QA, beta, fixes and store review before launch.
- Can I plan sprints inside this timeline?
- Yes. Split the build bars into sprints, or use the software sprint template for each one.
- Can I export the timeline for a client?
