About this equipment installation and commissioning
Installing new production equipment has two natural checkpoints: the factory acceptance test (FAT) at the vendor before shipping, and the site acceptance test (SAT) after installation. This plan builds the schedule around them, with site preparation running while the machine is built.
Lead times for equipment vary widely; replace the build row with the vendor's quoted lead time.
Who it's for: Manufacturing engineers, plant managers and equipment project leads.
How to use it
- Open the plan. Click Open in the editor. The tasks load as a live Gantt chart without signing in.
- Use the vendor lead time. Set the build row to the lead time on the vendor's quote.
- Run site prep in parallel. Start site preparation early enough that it finishes before shipping arrives.
- Share. Send a read-only link to the vendor and the plant team.
Planning tips
- Write acceptance criteria into the purchase order so FAT and SAT have clear pass marks.
- Confirm utilities (power, air, water) before the equipment arrives.
- Plan training before handover, not after.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between FAT and SAT?
- A factory acceptance test checks the equipment at the vendor before shipping. A site acceptance test checks it after installation at your plant.
- Can I add validation steps for regulated industries?
- Yes. Add rows for installation, operational and performance qualification after the site acceptance test.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Opening and editing the template is free, and a free account saves one project. Downloading the chart as PDF or CSV needs Solo.
